A quick and easy Halloween appetizer featuring a wheel of brie wrapped in crispy puff pastry strips like a mummy, served with tart cranberry sauce. Perfect for last-minute parties and crowd-pleasing festive fun.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (8-ounce) wheel of brie cheese
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (about 8x8 inches), thawed
  • 1/2 cup cranberry sauce
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Optional: pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg
  • Optional: fresh rosemary or thyme sprigs for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Lay the thawed puff pastry sheet on a clean surface. Slice the pastry into thin strips about 1/4 inch wide.
  3. Place the wheel of brie in the center of the baking sheet. Wrap the brie with the puff pastry strips in a crisscross pattern, leaving small gaps to resemble mummy eyes.
  4. Beat the egg with a splash of water. Using a pastry brush, coat the puff pastry strips with the egg wash.
  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown and the brie is soft inside.
  6. While baking, transfer cranberry sauce to a small bowl and stir in a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg if desired.
  7. Let the baked brie rest for 5 minutes. Transfer to a serving platter, garnish with rosemary or thyme if desired, and serve warm with cranberry sauce on the side.

Notes

Keep puff pastry cold until ready to wrap to ensure crispiness. If pastry feels too soft, chill for 10 minutes before wrapping. Avoid overwrapping to allow steam to escape and maintain a mummy look. Egg wash is essential for golden color and crisp texture. Cranberry sauce can be substituted with fig jam, apricot preserves, or raspberry sauce. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 2 days and reheated in a 350°F oven for 10 minutes. Avoid microwaving to keep pastry crisp.
