This easy witches’ brew green punch with dry-ice effect is the star of any Halloween party. It comes together in under 10 minutes with simple ingredients and creates a spooky fog effect that delights kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 quart lime sherbet
  • 2 liters lemon-lime soda (e.g., Sprite or 7-Up)
  • 2 cups pineapple juice (unsweetened)
  • 3–4 drops green food coloring (optional, gel preferred)
  • 1–2 pounds food-grade dry ice
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 cup vodka or white rum (optional, for boozy version)

Instructions

  1. Soften the sherbet: Take the lime sherbet out of the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for 5 minutes until soft enough to scoop but not melted.
  2. Mix the base: In a large punch bowl, combine the pineapple juice and lemon-lime soda. Stir gently to avoid losing carbonation. Ensure the soda is cold.
  3. Add the sherbet: Scoop the softened lime sherbet into the punch bowl in large dollops. Do not stir completely; leave some floating for a marbled, swampy look.
  4. Adjust the color: If the punch looks more yellow-green than neon green, add 3-4 drops of green food coloring and stir once or twice.
  5. Prepare the dry ice: Put on gloves or use tongs. Break the dry ice into walnut-sized chunks and place them in a small ramekin or heat-safe bowl that fits inside the punch bowl. Do not drop dry ice directly into the punch.
  6. Activate the fog: Just before serving, pour 1 cup of warm water over the dry ice in the ramekin. Thick fog will immediately roll over the edges of the bowl.
  7. Serve immediately: Use a ladle to scoop punch into cups, being careful not to disturb the ramekin. Remind guests not to eat or touch the dry ice. The fog effect lasts about 30-45 minutes; add more warm water as needed to refresh the fog.

Notes

Dry ice safety is crucial: never touch dry ice with bare skin, never seal it in an airtight container, and keep it in a paper bag in the freezer until use. For best fog effect, chill all ingredients overnight and add warm water to the dry ice every 20 minutes to refresh the fog. If making a boozy version, add 1 cup of vodka or white rum (or coconut rum) to the punch base before adding sherbet.
