A quick and elegant appetizer featuring toasted baguette slices topped with creamy ricotta, fresh figs, honey, and a tangy balsamic glaze. Perfect for entertaining or a cozy snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 baguette or rustic Italian bread, sliced into 1/2-inch (1.3 cm) pieces
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (extra virgin recommended)
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • 1 cup whole-milk ricotta cheese
  • 34 ripe fresh figs, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons honey (mild floral like wildflower or acacia)
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar (reduced to a glaze or store-bought balsamic glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. Slice the baguette into 1/2-inch thick pieces, keeping slices even for uniform toasting.
  3. Brush each slice lightly with olive oil and sprinkle a pinch of sea salt.
  4. Place the bread slices on the baking sheet and toast in the oven for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through until golden brown and crisp.
  5. While the bread toasts, prepare the balsamic glaze by simmering 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until reduced by half and syrupy, about 10-12 minutes.
  6. Spread about 1 tablespoon of ricotta cheese evenly on each toasted crostini.
  7. Top each with 2-3 slices of fresh figs.
  8. Drizzle honey generously over the figs and ricotta.
  9. Finish with a light drizzle of balsamic glaze across the top.
  10. Serve immediately to enjoy the perfect crunch and creamy, sweet toppings.

Notes

Do not overload crostini with ricotta or figs to avoid sogginess. Reduce balsamic vinegar low and slow to prevent bitterness. Brush bread with olive oil for a golden crust. Toast bread last to keep it crisp. Handle figs gently and slice just before assembling. Optionally add freshly cracked black pepper or flaky sea salt before serving.
