These chocolate-dipped pretzel rods are a quick, easy, and crowd-pleasing treat perfect for kids’ parties. The salty-sweet combination with customizable toppings makes them irresistible and fun to make.

Ingredients

Scale
  • About 20 large pretzel rods
  • 12 ounces semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
  • 6 ounces white chocolate chips
  • Sprinkles and toppings (rainbow nonpareils, crushed candy canes, mini M&Ms, chopped nuts, etc.)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening or coconut oil (optional)
  • Parchment paper

Instructions

  1. Line baking sheets with parchment paper and gather all ingredients and tools.
  2. Melt 12 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate chips with 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening in a microwave-safe bowl in 20-second intervals, stirring thoroughly until smooth (about 1 to 1.5 minutes).
  3. Hold a pretzel rod by one end and dip it about two-thirds into the melted chocolate. Let excess chocolate drip back into the bowl and place the dipped rod onto the parchment-lined sheet. Repeat for all rods.
  4. While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle chosen toppings over the rods. For decorative white chocolate drizzle, melt 6 ounces of white chocolate chips the same way and drizzle using a spoon or piping bag.
  5. Let the pretzel rods rest at room temperature for about 30 minutes or refrigerate for 10-15 minutes until the chocolate hardens with a glossy finish.
  6. Once set, transfer the rods to party favor bags or serving platters. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.

Notes

If chocolate thickens while dipping, reheat briefly to keep smooth. Avoid overcrowding baking sheets to prevent rods from sticking. Use high-quality chocolate chips for best melting and glossy finish. For dairy-free, use vegan chocolate and coconut oil. For gluten-free, use certified gluten-free pretzel rods.
