A festive and easy-to-make layered jello shot recipe perfect for 4th of July celebrations, featuring red, white, and blue layers with a creamy white middle.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (3 oz / 85 g) package red raspberry or strawberry flavored gelatin
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka or cold water for non-alcoholic
  • 1 (3 oz / 85 g) package unflavored gelatin
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) cold water
  • 1 cup (240 ml) sweetened condensed milk (can substitute with coconut milk for dairy-free)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka or cold water
  • 1 (3 oz / 85 g) package blue raspberry or blueberry flavored gelatin
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka or cold water
  • Mini plastic shot cups or silicone molds (around 1 oz / 30 ml size)
  • Non-stick spray or a light oil for easy release if using molds

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Red Layer: In a small bowl, pour 1 cup boiling water over the red gelatin powder. Stir briskly until fully dissolved (about 2 minutes). Add 1/2 cup vodka or cold water and stir gently.
  2. Pour Red Layer into Cups: Place shot cups on a tray and fill each with about 1 oz of the red mixture. Refrigerate until set but still slightly tacky, about 30-40 minutes.
  3. Prepare the White Layer Gelatin: Sprinkle unflavored gelatin over 1/2 cup cold water in a small bowl. Let it bloom for 5 minutes.
  4. Dissolve the White Gelatin: Heat the bloomed gelatin gently until fully melted (about 15-20 seconds in microwave). Stir in sweetened condensed milk and 1/2 cup vodka or cold water. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  5. Layer the White Gelatin: Once the red layer is set, carefully spoon or pour about 1 oz of the white gelatin over each cup. Chill until firm, approximately 30-40 minutes.
  6. Prepare the Blue Layer: Repeat the red layer steps using blue gelatin powder—dissolve in 1 cup boiling water, stir, then add 1/2 cup vodka or cold water.
  7. Pour the Blue Layer: Once the white layer is set, pour about 1 oz of the blue layer over each cup. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until fully firm.
  8. Serve: Once fully set, serve the layered jello shots chilled. Pop out of molds or serve directly in cups.

Notes

Let each layer chill until firm or at least tacky before adding the next to prevent colors from bleeding. Pour layers gently using the back of a spoon or small ladle. Bloom unflavored gelatin before dissolving to avoid lumps. For a non-alcoholic version, substitute vodka with cold or sparkling water. Avoid rushing the setting process to prevent cracking or uneven layers.
